Adjusting the Microphone – Changes to the way libraries communicate with their users

Presented at the CONUL Conference, July 2015, Athlone, Ireland by Fiona Tuohy, Maynooth University

A new website for Maynooth University (MU) prompted the Library to re-evaluate our methods of communicating with our users. While we were using social media and our website to promote our Library Information Skills Tutorials (LIST), events and exhibitions, databases etc, it became increasingly clear that the library needed to look at more exciting ways to engage students.
This paper will describe MU Library’s experience using free and subscribed software to produce animated videos and LibGuides and will provide a snapshot of the innovative tools currently used by MU Library including PowToon, Animoto and LibGuides. It will demonstrate the impact these new technologies have had on both library users and staff
